The True Hokusai: A Human Perspective
I am not an art critic or a historian. I am simply an ordinary man with a 40-year career in global trade, deeply moved by the timeless beauty of Japan. You do not need academic knowledge to feel the awe of nature, or to hear the breathing of the Edo people living their vibrant lives under the great Mount Fuji.
In digitally restoring Hokusai's Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, I made one crucial decision: to carefully remove the heavy, dark blue gradients often seen at the top of the sky. Historically, this dramatic effect was largely added by the surishi (woodblock printers) to make the prints pop, rather than being Hokusai's original intention. By stripping away these excessive effects, I aimed to reveal Hokusai's purest lines and true composition—bringing you as close to his original vision as possible.
In the Edo period, pigments were scarce and precious. I want you to feel the raw energy of craftsmen who risked everything to create and perfect color in a time of limitation. This gallery focuses purely on the original 36 masterpieces that gave the collection its legendary name.

The Curator's Vision
The Spirit of 利他 — Altruism
Did Hokusai and the master painters of his time create their art for prestige? I believe they painted with a pure, burning passion—a simple desire for their work to be seen and shared by as many people as possible. They poured their souls into capturing the majesty of Mount Fuji and the vibrant lives of everyday people.
My hope is simple: to share a glimpse of their original passion with you. If these artworks can add a touch of color and peace to your modern daily life, I truly believe the creators—and even the landscapes and people they depicted—would rejoice in being brought back to life today.
Hokusai's Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji is just the beginning of this journey. I look forward to exploring and sharing the hearts of other masters in the future.
Please, take a quiet moment in your busy day, pour yourself a cup of green tea—or perhaps coffee or black tea, whatever warms your heart—and simply enjoy the view. Somewhere in the world, someone is looking at these prints and smiling, and that is my greatest joy.
“Art does not belong to the past. It lives beautifully in your everyday life.”
